I arrived on Jeju Island last night and took the 90 minute "Airport Limousine" (aka a bus) to my hostel in the city of Seogwipo. There is always so much anticipation when arriving in a new place at night, not knowing how your surroundings truly look.
I checked into my hostel, got to meet some of the other travelers, and finally went to find some dinner. Unfortunately, the only place still open at 10 pm was Starbucks - I hope that is the first and last time I eat American food on this trip!
This morning I decided to join two of my roommates, Kenny from Belgium and Amanda from Australia, to check out some waterfalls and the beach! I woke up last, like usual, so I had to throw on some swim trunks and a tank top and run out the door! The first thing I noticed when I stepped outside was how beautiful this island is - no wonder they call it 'Korea's Hawaii'!
We boarded the "Airport Limousine 600" and made our way to the waterfalls, where we tried unsuccessfully to get down to the bottom of the waterfalls. Despite the failed attempts, the waterfalls were nice, the surrounding geography was beautiful, and the walking off of the calorie loaded meal I had at Starbucks was exactly what the doctor ordered.
After giving up on the chasing of waterfalls, we decided to rest up by heading to the beach. Kenny had arrived on Jeju a few days before Amanda and I, so naturally he was the tour guide. Despite his claimer to having a terrible sense of direction, we arrived at the beach to the sight of palm trees and the surfers riding the waves. To Amanda's dismay, the sand was brown and "heavy" (not like in Australia) but it was a welcomed sight for tired feet.
